SPAOH: A lorry driver had to be rushed to the hospital after suffering from serious injuries following the fire incident involving the lorry he was driving. The victim said his lorry suddenly caught fire near Kampung Bungin, in Spaoh yesterday.

According to Betong Fire and Rescue Operations Officer (BBP) PBK I Henry Jugah, earlier the victim stopped by the roadside after trips carrying sand loads and wanted to wash the lorry.

“He was not accompanied by anyone was reportedly hit by electric shock and the lorry was also burned,” Jugah said in Spaoh yesterday. He added, seven members led by PBK II Tony Morni who received the distress call around 1.59 pm rushed to the scene.

“Upon their arrival at the scene, the lorry was still burning and our side continued to carry out fire extinguishing operation using a 100ft stream of water nozzles obtained from the machinery tank until it (the fire) was fully under control and completely extinguished.

“The driver was sent to the Spaoh Health Clinic by the public before being referred to Betong Hospital for further treatment,” he said. The operation ended at about 2.50pm. Henry added the cause and estimated losses were still under investigation.
