Rider escapes unhurt after bike catches fire

KUCHING: A local man escaped unhurt after the motorcycle he was riding was destroyed in a fire last Tuesday night.

In the 11.00pm incident the 28-year-old man known only as Frederick was travelling along Jalan Serian Bypass when his EX5 Honda motorcycle suddenly caught fire near a local supermarket.

The victim immediately jumped off the machine and contacted the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) for assistance.

Seven personnel in a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) machinery and EMRS vehicle, led by Senior Fire Officer II Sim Mui Chai, from Serian fire station were dispatched to the scene after being alerted on the incident at 11.05pm.

They arrived at the scene three minutes later and took about three minutes to put out the fire. About 80 per cent of the motorcycle was damaged.

The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
