KUCHING: Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Resource Planning and Environment, Datu Sudarsono Osman, is among the 10 people from the ministry to be transferred to other ministries, starting middle of this month.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the transfer involved the biggest number people ever recorded in the ministry in a single period.

“At first, I did not believe when I heard about the news because of a variety of stories we heard in social media and so on. For me, the transfer is not timely because it involves a number of ministry staff whose contracts will expire at the end of the year.

“This is the first time I see the largest transfer of staff in the same period and I hope we will get the best successor to Datu Sudarsono Osman,” said AwangTengah, who is also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment.

He was speaking during the Resource Planning and Environment Ministry’s ‘Sekalung Budi Sejunjung Kasih’ Dinner at Hilton Kuching here, on Monday.

According to the Awang Tengah, eight permanent secretaries had served in the ministry since when he was an assistant minister until becoming a full minister.

“All eight former permanent secretaries had set a very significant basis for the development of the ministry, as the ministry is very technical and has functions different from other ministries.

“Permanent secretary of the ministry must be aware of all matters relating to the ministry and officials must be clear and knowledgeable of the responsibilites they are entrusted with,” he explained.

In the meantime, Awang Tengah hoped that the ministry’s officials who were on transfer would be willing to lend a helping hand if needed later. “Maybe at some point, I may need your help because we have a lot of things that have been and will be implemented since the administration of Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud as Chief Minister as well as during the administration of the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Resource Planning Datuk Haji Mohd Naroden Majais and Assistant Minister of Environment Datu Haji Len Talif Salleh.
