100% passes but only one 9A

SMK Merbau’s top SPM 2019 achievers

MIRI: Only one of SMK Agama Miri’s 120 candidates achieved 9A in last year’s Sijil Peperiksaan Malaysia(SPM) but the school did achieve 100% passes.

The proud student, Hardijah Mokhtar whose parents shed tears of joy when they collected her results slip yesterday.

“We did not expect her to score 9A,” said her father, Mokhtar Ruddin from Kampung Madinah in Niah.

Her mother, Radiyati Abdul Hakim, said Hardijah who is currently working in Kuala Lumpur had yet to know her result.

“We have not called her yet to tell her that she had done so well,” said the mother.

Mokthar and Radiyati travelled from Niah to SMK Agama Miri to collect their daughter’s results slip.

Another student, Nurain Rohani, who scored 8A, expressed her joy over her achievement.

Besides her, two other students obtained 8As, while 33 achieved 5As.

Nurain who is planning to take up a teaching course attributed her success to consistent group studies with her friends.

According to her principal, Ahmad Fauzi Yaakob, the school’s grade point average (GPS) has increased to 3.59 percent from 3.65 percent in the 2018 SPM.

Over at SMK Merbau, one student obtained 9A, three 8As, nine 7As, 14 6As and 22 5As.

The school had 443 candidates sitting for the examination last year achieving a school average grade of 4.84 compared to 4.82 in 2018.
