100 take part in ‘gotong-royong’ to clean up Sibu Jaya

SIBU: About 100 people turned up for a ‘gotong-royong’ to clean up areas in Sibu Jaya Township, yesterday.

The event was joinly organised by the Sarawak Community Policing Association (SCPA) of Sibu Jaya, The Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association Sarawak (PVTMS), the Neighbourhood Watch Committee (KRT) of Sibu Jaya and Sibu Jaya Community Association (SCA).

People attending the event comprised members of SCPA of Sibujaya, PVTMS, KRT of Sibujaya and SCA. They gathered as early as 8.30am at the Sibu Jaya Town Square before carrying out works to clean up the areas around Sibu Jaya.

Deputy chairman of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) Robert Lau Hui Yew officiated at the event.

He said the ‘gotong-royong’ was very good activity in which the people work together to clean up areas in Sibu Jaya.

“People should change their mindset to inculcate this great attitude and prioritise cleanliness in the environment.

“Such attitude is important to ensure the beauty and cleanliness of the surrounding areas can be maintained,” said Lau, adding that such activities would also foster better ties among the people.

Also present were SCPA Central Zone chief and PVTMS president Thomas Ling Kui Eng and organising chairman Chieng Huo Ing.
