SIBU: About 1,000 people joined the grand opening parade of Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) 2017 on Thursday night to mark the start of this year’s annual Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF).

The parade began from the Jalan Bujang Suntong adjacent Sibu Town Square Phase 1 at 5.45pm, passing several iconic landmarks in Sibu before ending at the town square again.

The troupes, which included local governmental and non-governmental organisations, and marching bands were led by chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Datuk Tiong Thai King, organising chairlady of BCF 2017, who is also deputy chairlady of SMC Rogayah Jamain and Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee.

The annual BCF is a 10-day celebration of food, arts and culture of the diverse society here.

Moreover, each pavilion (Dayak, Chinese, and Malay/Melanau) showcased its own programmes to glue the crowd to the stage.

The BCF 2017 will end on 29 July.
