SIBU: About 1,000 people of the various communities here are expected to join the grand opening procession of Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) at Sibu Town Square Phase 1 tomorrow (20 July).
According to BCF 2017 organising chairlady, Rogayah Jamain, who is also deputy chairman of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), all contingents taking part in the parade are required to gather at Jalan Bujang Suntong by 5.30pm before the parade begins at 5.45pm.
Hence, she advised road users to avoid the routes to be used by the procession as the roads will be closed from 5.15pm on 20 July.
The routes involved in the procession are from Chuan Corridor/Jalan Pulau/ Masland Church/Channel Road/ Sibu Central Market/turn left to Pansar/ Workshop Road/ Bomba/ turn left to Central Road/ Standard Chartered Bank/turn right to Jalan Morshidi Sidek/ Sanyan Building/Jalan Kampung Nyabor/RH Hotel (front)/WTK Building/turn left to Jalan Bujang Suntong.
After the procession, Rogayah said the official opening ceremony of BCF 2017 will be held at 7.30pm at the BCF 2017 arch.
“Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah will officiate at the official opening ceremony of BCF 2017,” she said at a press conference held at SMC meeting room here yesterday.
She added that during the official opening ceremony, a book titled ‘A taste of Sibu’ would be launched before the guest of honor tour the various community pavilions, cultural belt exhibition and BCF Tradex 2017.
Meanwhile, she said the launching of BCF Tradex 2017 by the guest of honor will be at 9pm.
Thus, Rogayah urged members of the public to come to BCF as many activities are being organised in this year’s BCF which is focusing more on culture.
At the press conference, CCK handed over aprons to the food handlers during the BCF which were received by each representative of the pavilions. CCK sponsored a total of 250 aprons for the event.
