KUCHING: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said 1,004 medical and dental officers from Sarawak were granted permanent appointments this year.
Of the total, 884 people or 36.5 percent were medical officers and specialists while 120 people or 43.2 percent were dental officers including dental specialists.
“The Ministry of Health (MOH) is working to fill vacancies from time to time to meet the needs,” he said in response to a question by Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew on the number of vacancies that had been filled for medical and dental officers in Sarawak for the year 2020 and how many of them were from Sarawak at the Dewan Negara on Monday (Sept 7).
Dr Adham said that as of June 30, 2020, 421 full time medical specialists and 2,001 medical officers as well as 21 full time dental specialists and 257 dental officers served in Sarawak.
He added in April 2020, 94 permanent medical officers also received offers to serve in Sarawak.
“Apart from the permanent medical officers, the MOH has also placed a total of 920 contract medical officers in Sarawak to meet the service delivery needs,” he said.
Dr Adham said the MOH also planned to place at least 100 more permanent medical officers in the state this year.
