102 SPM high achievers overjoyed with results

KUCHING: Candidates for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2021 were ecstatic after the results were announced today.

A total of 102 excellent candidates were invited to receive their results from Sarawak Education Director Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad during the results announcement event held at the department’s auditorium here.

Excellent results cannot be achieved in a short amount of time.

In fact, it takes effort and encouragement from parents, teachers, and friends.

Despite the challenges faced due to pandemic of COVID-19, the candidates managed to go through such challenging period and endure the struggle.

New Sarawak Tribune took the opportunity to interview a few excellent candidates. 

Outstanding candidate, Hong Yong Kai from SMK Green Road managed to get the best SPM result in the whole state with a score of 11A+.

He expressed his happiness and said he was overwhelmed as his efforts all this time finally paid off.

“I am also grateful for the moral support of my family and friends, with whom I studied during the pandemic,” he said.

One of the most difficult challenges was having to attend classes online, he explained.

Although unable to meet his teachers and friends face to face, he used another approach by always contacting teachers and friends online.

He said he aspires to be a doctor.

His mom, Hung Shue Lim who accompanied him said he was always interested in Biology.

“He is really interested in the medical field and he also spends a lot of time to analyse and understand neurology information.

Another SPM candidate with flying colours, Aufa Abdul Hadi from Kolej Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdillah scored 9A+.

She deemed her common practices such as consistent study and hard work as one of the factors of her achievement.

She added that obligations to religious orders should not be neglected.

Aiming to be an economist, Aufa said she aimed to pursue to a higher education level, abroad.

“I want to study abroad if I get a scholarship offer.

“Well, if I don’t, I want to enrol at Universiti Malaya,” she said.

Aufa stressed that every student will definitely feel difficulty when learning during the home-based Learning and Teaching (PdPR).

But, she said, one has to overcome the challenges and make effort to excel.

Her father, Datuk Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir was proud of the success of his youngest daughter and hopes that Aufa will always excel in whatever field of study that she wants to pursue.

Her mother, Nik Nurizan Nik Jaafar said Aufa and her siblings always consume cod liver oil to strengthen their memories.

“We (Aufa’s parents) have been giving fish oil to them since childhood.

She said parents should always motivate their children to drive them for success.

Among the top performing candidates with special needs who scored A+ are, from left, Shallzuandy Abdul Wahab (SMK Semop), Fairunizam Abdul Rahman (SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman, Kuching) and Danny Yong Zhi Lik (SMK Chung Hua, Sibu).

Meanwhile, Danny Yong Zhi Lik, candidate with special needs (CBK) from SMK Chung Hua, Sibu also achieved excellent results of 5A+, 2A and 1A-.

Despite suffering from vision problems since childhood, he said it has never affected his spirit to continue sparing no effort in his studies.

Aspiring to become a teacher, he said it has always been his passion to learn History subject.

“I will achieve my ambition to become a teacher.

“It doesn’t matter where the fate takes me but I will pursue my studies to achieve my dream.
