KUCHING: Another 10,000 households in the Tanjong Manis parliamentary constituency will be receiving food aid soon.
Urban Development and Natural Resources Assistant Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the first day of the distribution of food aid was on July 21, and a portion of the households in the constituency have received theirs.
“Thank you to the federal and state governments for their concerns for the welfare of the people during the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (July 24).
Earlier, he paid a visit to the food distribution centre for the Tanjong Manis parliamentary constituency at Kampung Seberang Multipurpose Hall.
Len said the allocations from the state and federal governments have benefitted more residents in the area through a food aid programme.
“The constituency is allocated RM300,000 by the federal government through its MP.
“Tanjong Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab added another RM100,000 to ensure that the fund is sufficient.
“Previously, the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government also allocated RM250,000 for each state constituency. I added another RM100,000 in minor rural project grant for the food basket allocation,” he said.
At the same time, the Kuala Rajang assemblyman also thanked the GPS and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu machinery of Kuala Rajang and Semop for assisting in the food aid distribution.
He added that the assistance will alleviate the burden of those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
