MUKAH: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs announced that 11 essential items have been included under the Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) for Gawai Dayak effective May 28 until June 3.

Its Mukah branch head Salihin Den said the scheme was implemented as a move to control the increase in price of essential goods in conjunction with the coming Gawai Dayak on June 1.

He thus advised traders in this division to comply with the order issued by the ministry throughout the SHMMP.

He added the goods involved included live chicken; standard chicken (processed with legs, head, liver, hempedal and other parts); super chicken (processed without legs, head, liver and hempedal); live old chicken, chicken wings; chicken eggs Grade A, Grade  B and Grade C; live pig (price control at farm level); and pork meat (stomach and meat and fat).

“Traders are advised not to sell these goods above the maximum price fixed by the government, and also must display the pink price label throughout the SHMMP,” he said in a statement today (May 28).

He added action would be taken against any trader who failed to comply with the order, and are liable to a fine or jail time or both, or a compound for the first offence.

For the second and subsequent offence, a heavier fine or jail time or both would be imposed under Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011.

Salihin said that in order to prevent the unreasonable increase in prices offered by irresponsible traders, a notice would be issued under Section 21 of AKHAP 2011.

He added that consumers can channel their complaints through various platforms provided by the ministry, or call the office here at 084-872726, or walk-in to the office.
