BINTULU: A wee-hour fire swept through two blocks of houses along Jalan Sibiyu, Taman Desa Damai today, leaving 12 families without homes.

The incident, which occurred at 1.35 am, resulted in the destruction of a two-storey rental house block, while another block of one-storey houses suffered partial damages.

Fortunately, all 60 residents managed to escape unharmed; no injuries or casualties were reported.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Bintulu and Kidurong stations were promptly deployed to the scene, some 8km away.

The extinguishing operation was performed using water from a nearby fire hydrant, and the flames were brought under control at 3am.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the firmen concluded their operation at 7.59 am.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
