12 fined for violating SOPs

Police in Kapit checking on customers in coffee shops pertaining to SOP compliance, especially on wearing of face masks and social distancing.

SIBU: A total of 12 individuals were slapped with a compound of RM1,000 each for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) during  separate enforcement operations last Friday.

These 12 included seven offenders who were caught in Kapit.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the operation took place from 8am to 2pm involving 37 personnel, led by Crime Prevention and Community Safety chief DSP Ariffin Bahar.

“In Sibu, five individuals were fined for not wearing face masks while being inside eateries at Jalan Hulu Lanang and Jalan Lada.

“Three of them are food stall owners while the other two are their customers,” he told.

In the same operation, a woman was also arrested on suspicion of selling illegal lottery numbers in a shop at Jalan Lanang.

Stanley added that the district’s traffic police team also issued 31 summonses for various parking offences at Grand Heights area, Mantis.

Meanwhile, in a similar operation in Kapit, district police chief DSP Freddy Bian said seven individuals including shop owners were also compounded for not wearing face masks.

“They were caught red-handed for violating the SOPs during the enforcement operation around Kapit town on Friday,” he explained.
