KUCHING: Sarawak today recorded 120 positive Covid-19 cases, bringing the state’s tally to 3,499 cases.

The state also recorded two more Covid-19 related deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities to 30.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 52 of the new cases were reported in Sibu,11 in Subis, 10 in Miri, nine each in Dalat and Bintulu, six in Kanowit, five each in Samarahan and Julau, three in Song, two each in Kuching and Kapit, one each in Sarikei, Pakan, Selangau, Lubok Antu, Telang Usan and Tatau.

“Of the 52 cases in Sibu district, 27 involved the Pasai Cluster while 17 were individuals who were screened at health centres in the district. Five other cases were active contacts to a positive case while the remaining three cases involved health workers in Sibu.

“Six cases in Miri district were active contacts to a positive case while four involved individuals who were screened at health centres in the district.

“In Bintulu, five cases involved the Rakut Cluster while four cases were individuals who were screened at health centres in the district,” said SDMC in its daily Covid-19 update on Monday (Jan 25).

It added that the cases in Subis, Dalat, Song and Sarikei districts involved the Pasai Cluster.

In Kanowit, five cases involved the Pasai Cluster while one case involved an individual who was screened at a health centre in the district.

Four cases in Samarahan District involved individuals who were screened at health centres in the district while one case involved the Stutong Cluster.

“The five cases in Julau District were from Rakut Cluster. One case from Kuching was categorised as a close contact of an active case while the other case was an individual who came back from high-risk areas.

“The two cases in Kapit were individuals who were screened at health centres in the district while one case in Serian district was from a close contact,” it stated.

All cases in Pakan, Selangau, and Lubok Antu were detected as a result of individual screenings in the respective districts.

As of Monday (Jan 25), there were eight active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak, including the Rakut Cluster in Miri, the Pasai Cluster in Sibu and the Stutong Cluster in Kuching.

SDMC also said 116 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals on Sunday — 74 from Sibu Hospital, 28 from Miri Hospital, eight from Sarawak General Hospital and six from Bintulu Hospital.

“This brings the total number of recovered and discharged patients to 1,816 or 51.9 percent of the total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,” it pointed out.

Today (Monday), 1,646 individuals were still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the state — 1,081 in Sibu Hospital, 288 in Miri Hospital, 155 in Sarawak General Hospital, 86 in Bintulu Hospital, 35 in Kapit Hospital and one in Limbang Hospital.

“Today (Monday) 136 new person under investigation (PUI) cases have been reported and 73 PUIs are still awaiting laboratory results,” SDMC added.
