SARIKEI: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Sarikei branch yesterday welcomed 121 new members.

Most of them were from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), while the rest are individuals who do not represent any party.

Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii was present to attend membership cards to the new members in a ceremony during a luncheon held here yesterday.

Delighted by the development, Huang who is also SUPP Sarikei branch chairman welcomed the new members and hoped that they would fight hard for the party.

The participation of the new members, he said, further solidified their struggle in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in facing the coming state election.

“We have been welcoming members in stages since the middle of this year. We are still waiting for the membership card process from SUPP headquarters in Kuching,” he told reporters.

In this regard, he greatly appreciates the support of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in improving the standard of living of the people, especially in the Repok constituency.

“The GPS government is always concerned about the needs of the people by providing various projects to benefit them.

“Therefore, the presence of other parties such as Pakatan Harapan (PH), I consider as a normal process of a country that adopts the concept of democracy.

“Regardless, I believe the people can wisely judge which party fights for them,” he said.

In this regard, he urged the people to continue supporting GPS to enable further development.
