13 busted in third phase of anti-crime ops

Kuching traffic police conducting inspections at roadblocks during the third phase of the special crime prevention integrated operation.

KUCHING: Police arrested 13 persons for various offences during Phase 3 of the ongoing special crime prevention integrated operation recently.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the operation was held for three days from July 14 to 16.

Throughout the period, the offence that contributed to the most arrests was drugs, involving eight individuals under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“Meanwhile, three were arrested for traffic offences and two for other criminal offences.

“In addition, the team also issued 266 summonses for various traffic offences after conducting checks on a total of 4,592 vehicles – 2,769 cars, 1,210 motorcycles and 613 other vehicles,” he said.

Ahsmon said the operation was to focus on the prevention and elimination of rising crime cases, especially vehicle thefts.

Crime prevention patrols in crowded and targeted locations as well as high-risk areas will be beefed up, including implementing roadblocks at strategic areas, he said.

The local police chief said crime prevention operations of this magnitude would continue from time to time to ensure public safety in the district.
