13 hockey coaches complete high performance course

IPOH: A total of 13 participants from five countries successfully completed the High Performance Coach Course organised by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF), in collaboration with the Raja Ashman Shah Hockey Academy, held over five days here since Saturday.

Raja Ashman Shah Hockey Academy chairman, Datuk Abd Rahim Md Ariff said that there were four course categories namely High Performance Coach, held for the first time, Level 3 Coach, Advanced Umpire, and Hockey Educators.

He said 13 participants successfully completed the High Performance Coach course, with representatives from South Africa, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Australia, Barbados and Malaysia’s own Iman Gobiathan.

“For the Level 3 Coach course, 19 participants received coaching certification. They are from Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Oman and South Africa, while seven participants completed the Educator Course and two others in the Advanced Umpire category,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Also in attendance were Mike Joyce, Head of Education and Development at FIH; Ghulam Gous, Senior Director at AHF, and Member of the Board of Trustees at Raja Ashman Shah Hockey Academy, Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin.

Meanwhile, Abd Rahim said that the annual programme, in conjunction with the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup (PSAS) 2024 hockey tournament, also received support from the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC).

National Women’s Hockey Squad assistant coach Siti Rahmah Othman, who took the Level 3 Coach course, said she was excited to expand her coaching knowledge through the insights shared by hockey experts.

“Over the five days of the course, there were significant differences in the input provided by the instructors, and I hope to apply this to our national team.

“I am confident that the experience and knowledge gained during the course will contribute to providing excellent coaching services to advance hockey in this country, including on the international stage,” she said.
