KUCHING: A total of 1,345 families in Kuching received food aid from the Women and Family Council under its ‘Love is Kind’ programme from Nov 29 until Dec 12.

Today, 106 families from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) flats, Kampung Selipar Putus, Kampung Kudei and Sri Wangi Flat received the food aid.

The programme was a collaboration between MBKS, the Women and Family Council and Food Aid Kuching.

The food aid, presented by Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, was given to residents who were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and single mothers.

“The families who received the aid were specifically chosen based on urgency. For example, one family cannot pay for its rent.

“The food aid was collected by Raja Noor Raja Kamil and her team and also mayor of MBKS, Datuk Wee Hong Seng,” she told reporters after the handing over ceremony at the MBKS flats today.

Fatimah also said that her ministry and MBKS would work together in future to set up a counter or booth at the MBKS flats as many families there do not know or are unaware of the assistance provided by her ministry.

“Some may have problems applying for help online, but with the counter, our staff can assist them,” she added.

Wee added that MBKS and its staff also came together to help the families who could not pay for their rents.

“As you can see, we are moving towards a caring society. Thus, we would like to encourage members of the society to help each other.

“As our chief minister emphasises that education is important, MBKS will look further in creating initiatives such as providing education for the children who live here and looking for teachers who would like to teach them,” he added.
