MIRI: Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD) yesterday disposed of a total of 1,368 case exhibits including illegal gambling machines seized around the area.

Among the items were 13 cars, 107 motorcycles and 1,248 illegal gambling machines.

Local Police chief ACP Lim Ming Saeh said the case exhibits involved were those seized from 2012 until 2016.

“All the cases have been completed by the court and the police have issued a notice of reclaim pertaining to the cases to the related parties, but these items were still unclaimed.

“We are experiencing problems of storage due to the limited space and had requested permission to dispose the items,” he said after witnessing the disposal of the items by Miri district police here yesterday.

Lim said the approval to dispose of the items was issued by the Magistrate’s Court under Section 22 of the Police Compensation and Section 406A of the Computer / Gambling Machine.

“The motorcycles and cars are disposed of by sale to the scrapped metal buyers appointed by tender process.

“As for illegal gambling machines, they are destroyed in a way that does not affect the environment before being sold to scrapped metal buyers for recycling,” he said.

According to Lim, all the gambling machines were seized from 122 raids around the district over the five-year period.

“The operations and raids on these gambling premises are being held continuously in an effort to eradicate gambling activities in this area,” he said.

Lim also asked the public to continue cooperating with the police by providing information if there were gambling activities in their vicinity.
