KUCHING: Sarawak has the capacity to run a total of 1,576 Covid-19 tests in a day.

In revealing this, Sarawak heath director Dr Chin Zin Hing said as of now, there was no need to fully utilise all available testing facilities.

“For our laboratories, we can run up to 1,576 tests at two or three shifts per day or for 24 hours in order to meet that capacity,” he told the press on Tuesday (Aug 4).

He added that there were a number of Covid-19 testing laboratories in the state, namely Sarawak General Hospital, Sarawak Heart Centre (Pusat Jantung Kota Samarahan), Sibu Hospital, Miri Hospital and Bintulu Hospital.

He revealed that the testing laboratory at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) had not been closed, and was available to conduct testing whenever needed.

“The Unimas laboratory was engaged by the State Disaster Management Committee to assist in the testing of Covid-19 since the outbreak.

“Throughout the outbreak, the Unimas laboratory has helped significantly in testing.
