1,380 students benefitted from educational aid

OYA: The Dalat constituency Education Foundation has benefited 1,380 students involving an allocation amounting to RM712,000 as of Aug 12 this year since 2010.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said this year alone, the foundation has helped 25 students with funds totalling RM7,700.

She added that the education assistance from the foundation was aimed at lightening the financial burden of needy students who intend to further their studies or currently furthering their studies at universities (in or outside Sarawak), as well as students who are currently in colleges and Form 6.

“To apply for the one-off education assistance, the applicant must have offer letters to further their studies from the university, college or school, and whose family’s monthly income is below RM1,500,” she said when officiating at the handover ceremony of the Sarawak Foundation School Uniform Assistance Voucher at Dalat constituency Service Centre here on Aug 13.

Ten students received the education assistance, of which, seven (RM200 each) will be pursuing Form 6 and three (RM300 each) at Bintulu Vocational School.

She said the Dalat Education Foundation also assisted in the purchase of a laptop worth RM1,000 for Muhammad Syafiq Wong for his educational use.

Fatimah, who is also Dalat assemblywoman, added that the quantum of the one-off education assistance is RM1,000 for institutions of higher learning, diploma (RM500) and Form 6 (RM200).
