KUCHING: The district police headquarters (IPD) here has assigned a total of 1,398 police personnel to help control and manage governance in the event of flooding during the 15th General Election (GE15).

Kuching district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah in this context, said the district police headquarters (IPD) is ready to carry out the responsibility following the expected risk of flooding during GE-15.

“It is a challenging task because this time’s GE is held at risk of experiencing floods. Therefore, we need to carry out this task together.

“Because of that, we will mobilise 90 per cent of the available manpower to ensure that this election is carried out smoothly,” he said during the Kuching IPD monthly assembly yesterday.

With the coming flood season, he stated that they have identified a total of 99 locations at risk of flooding and prepared a total of 56 temporary flood evacuation centres (PPS).

Of the figure, 23 of them (PPS) would also be used as polling centres.

Ahsmon explained that this requires a comprehensive planning to ensure that the election can be carried out smoothly as well as the evacuation of victims in the event of a disaster.

“We are ready and we have the support of the leadership at the Sarawak contingent level as well as other agency partners, who will be working together to ensure that the situation is under control before GE15 later,” he said.

During the monthly assembly, Ahsmon also presented certificates of appreciation to 13 police personnel and staff members for their hard work and long service in Kuching IPD.
