MUKAH: “Do your best. Make Sarawak proud. Believe in yourself. Where there is effort, there is success.”
That was part of the opening speech from Mukah MP Hanifah Hajar Taib at the opening of the 49th Sarawak Schools Sports Council athletics meet at Stadium Mukah here. The competition runs until Aug 12.
The four-day tournament is organised by the Mukah Division Sports Council in collaboration with the Mukah District Education Office (PPD), Dalat PPD and Daro PPD, and sees the participation of a total of 14 contingents.
Zamzaitul Akmal Hisham Ahmad, the deputy director of the student development sector, also shared that only 19 events would be competed in this 49th edition.
“Events like this can help in shaping one’s personality and instil a high level of sportsmanship.
“The State Education Department is very proud of the appearance of a participant in the Cross Country MSS Sarawak because on Aug 6, Shakira Oni from SK Nanga Entabai became a champion.
“Sarawak has achieved a total of 19 national championships since 1993.
“Participants selected through the tournament in Mukah this time will fight at the national level in Bukit Jalil on Sept 24.”
