KUCHING: The 2023 Christmas Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) comes into effect from today (Dec 23) until Dec 27 in Sarawak.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) announced that following the festive season, a total of 14 items are put under price controlled items enforced through the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011.

“Among the items announced in this scheme are imported bone-in lamb, tomatoes, green bell peppers, imported round cabbage (China and Indonesia), carrots, red chilies, imported potatoes (China), imported red onions, and large yellow onions.

“In addition, live ‘ayam tua’ (spent chicken), chicken wings, live pigs (farm only); pork belly; and pork (meat and fat),” it said in a statement today after a walkabout at Aeon supermarket here.

As the prices for the items are set at the wholesale and retailer level, KPDN Sarawak assured that the supply of controlled goods is sufficient throughout the implementation period of SHMMP Christmas 2023.
