KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 14 new positive Covid-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total number in the state to 906.

Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said all cases were reported here.

He said five of the new cases came from the Green Hill Cluster.

“One of them was an employee on a premises owned by a positive case from the cluster case 869.

“Meanwhile, the other four were detected positive as they had social contacts with cases from the Green Hill cluster. One had close contact with Case 868, Case 875, Case 877 and Case 818.

“Two of the cases showed signs and symptoms of the disease such as headaches and fever while the other three did not show any symptoms.

“All five cases were screened between Oct 31 and Nov 1 and all the results were reported positive on the same day, bringing the total number of positive cases from the Green Hill cluster to 52,” Uggah said at the SDMC Covid-19 press conference at Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Building on Monday (Nov 2).

He revealed four new cases in Kuching were found through self-screening.

One of the cases was a local man who went for screening at a private health facility on Nov 1.  He had signs and symptoms of the disease including loss of sense of smell and was found positive on the same day.

“Another case is a local woman who is a teacher at a day-care centre in Kuching. She underwent the screening at a private health facility on Nov 1 and the result was found positive on the same day.

“Another local man, who works as a security guard, also tested positive after screening at a government health facility on Oct 31.

“Then, a Chinese foot massager was detected positive after being screened on Nov 1 at a private health facility prior to his/her return to the country of origin.

“All four cases have no history of travelling to areas at risk of Covid-19 infections and had no contact with the positive cases. They are categorised as cases of local transmission,” said Uggah.

He added another new case, categorised as an imported case, was detected through screening after returning from risk areas.

The case is a local man who has a history of travelling to Negeri Sembilan. On arrival at Kuching International Airport on Oct 21, he was directed to undergo 14-day mandatory quarantine; he underwent the first rT-PCR screening on the same day and the result was negative.

On Oct 31, he underwent a second screening test and was found positive on Nov 1. He did not show any signs and symptoms and has been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.

Yet, another one new case involved an Indonesian man who underwent screening because he wanted to start working at a food premises in Kuching.

He went for rT-PCR screening at a private health facility on Nov 1 and was found positive on the same day.

Uggah added there were eight new recovery and discharged cases from hospitals yesterday. They included five cases from the Baki Cluster.

“This brings the total of recovered and discharged cases to 761 or 84.0 percent.

“The total number of cases being treated at isolation wards is 126, of which 104 are in SGH, 17 in Miri Hospital, two in Sibu Hospital and three in Bintulu Hospital. No cases are being treated at intensive care units (ICUs).

“There are 26 persons under investigation (PUI) while two are still awaiting laboratory results,” he added.
