MIRI: A total of 1,452 community leaders from Miri, Bintulu and Limbang participated in the state-level development and leadership seminar for community leaders at one of the leading hotels here yesterday.

The one-day seminar was officiated by Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg who urged the people to continuously unite to achieve state development instead of scrambling to be a respected member (YB).

“Do not fight to be a YB because it is God’s will.

“What we want is Sarawakians who are knowledgeable and can develop the state as we want the State to become a high-income state based on technological development by 2030,” he said.

Abang Johari added that every religion believes in justice and sincerity in executing their responsibilities and need not to nominate themselves for the leader’s position if they could not execute the responsibility given.

He also advised community leaders to avoid such situations.

The Chief Minister said that unity was always emphasised in order to develop a peaceful state with good economic status which would turn Sarawak into a foreign investment destination.

“Like ants, they are attracted to sugar. If our state is peaceful with good economy, investors will automatically come to Sarawak.

“But, even if the country is rich, like the oil-rich Middle East countries, investors will not dare to invest in the country that is in turmoil,” he explained.

The seminar was aimed at enhancing the understanding of the state development agenda as well as solidifying the roles and responsibilities of community leaders.

Organised by the Chief Minister’s Department in collaboration with Angkatan Zaman Mansang Sarawak (AZAM Sarawak), the seminar also aimed to strengthen management and leadership skills at the grass-roots level.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Chief Ministers, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
