SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will hold 14th Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) from 20 to 29 July with the theme ‘Beauty in Ethnic Diversities’.
Speaking at the full council meeting here yeterday, SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King said that similar to the past years, Malay and Melanau Pavilion, Chinese Pavilion, Dayak Pavilion, Cultural Belt Exhibition and BCF Tradex will work together to showcase the truly colourful festival throughout the 10 days.
“Besides showcasing local multi ethnic performances, the council has extended invitation to Ngangklun Ceria from Indonesia, Punjabi Folks Dance Academy from India and SMK Yu Hua from Peninsular Malaysia to take part.
“Four Friendship cities, namely Mingqing Country, Gutian County, Gulou District from Fujian Province and Puyang County from Henan Province, China have confirmed to join BCF 2017 for the last three nights of BCF main stage performances at Sibu Town Square Phase 1,” he said.
Apart from the opening parade of BCF 2017, there will be a grand opening ceremony right after the parade at Sibu Town Square Phase 1. Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, has been invited to officiate the opening ceremony of BCF 2017.
