KUCHING: A total of two secondary and 13 primary schools are in dire need of upgrading works under Simunjan constituency.

In revealing this on Friday, Simunjan state assemblyman AwlaDris, when debating the State’s Budget 2019, said, apart from the schools’ conditions, teachers’ and staff’s quarters are also in bad shape.

“Most of the buildings are in bad shape, whereas basic facilities are lacking, making it impossible for them to fulfil or carry out their duties fully,” he said.

He further disclosed, some of the teachers and staff members are commuting back and forth from Kuching to Simunjan.

“Through an allocation amounting to RM81.7 million to re-build dilapidated schools, I am hoping that those dilapidated schools within Simunjan constituency will be given focus,” he said.

Awla also expressed his concern over social problems involving drugs and online gambling activities amongst youths.

“I hope the relevant authorities and enforcement agencies will take necessary measures against such problems,” he added.

During his speech, Awla also proposed once again to the august House, for the ‘Simunjan new township’ project to be implemented within the Simunjan district.

He believed with the ‘Simunjan new township’ being done within the district, it could help cater for the increasing population of the constituency.
