15 SOP violators compounded

KUCHING: Police issued 15 compounds to errant individuals for failing to comply with the conditional movement control order (CMCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Friday (May 14).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching recorded the most compounds with seven, followed by Bintulu (six), Simunjan (one), and Miri (one).

“The violations included not wearing face masks (seven); failing to provide a reasonable excuse for being out from home (four); did not practise physical distancing (two); premises operating past the allowed time (one); and attempt to cross zone without a permit (one).

“This brings the total amount of compounds issued since Mar 18 last year to 6,524,” the committee said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing has issued 18 compounds to business operators of premises under the supervision of various local councils.

Betong District Council recorded the highest compounds with five; followed by three each under Padawan Municipal Council and Kapit District Council; two each under Sibu Municipal Council, Serian District Council and Kuching South City Council (MBKS); and one under Sarikei District Council.

SDMC added that the businesses were violating SOPs such as failing to update the record books (nine); failing to enforce wearing of face masks (five); failing to scan the MySejahtera (two); failing to enforce practice of physical distancing (one); and having a non-functional temperature scanner (one).

This brings the total amount of compounds issued by local authorities since Feb 1 this year to 498.
