MIRI: A total of 150 students completed the latest instalment of the English Enhancement Programme (EEP) conducted at Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia).

The EEP, free of charge to Sarawakian students, is a collaborative effort between Curtin Malaysia and Yayasan Sarawak to equip school leavers with proficient English language skills necessary for tertiary education.

The programme, fully funded by Yayasan Sarawak, ensures that financial constraints do not hinder access to quality education.

Moreover, students receive a one-time stipend of RM300 to cover their living expenses during the programme.

One of the programme’s standout features is the provision of free accommodation at the Curtin Malaysia campus for outstation students throughout the four-week course.

Furthermore, those who successfully complete the EEP are entitled to credits towards selected units should they join courses at Curtin Malaysia later.

“Empowering youth with the essential language skills needed for success in tertiary education has always been a priority for us,” said Professor Tang Fu Ee, Dean of Learning and Teaching of Curtin Malaysia, who represented Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Simon Leunig at the closing ceremony.

“We are proud to deliver this programme exclusively for Sarawakian students, and are immensely proud of the dedication and progress they have demonstrated throughout the programme,” he added.

Representing the management of Yayasan Sarawak was Assistant Director Liew Zhe Rong, who emphasised the foundation’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all Sarawakians.

“Investing in education is investing in the future of Sarawak. The EEP is a
testament to our dedication to empowering our youth and ensuring they have the tools needed to excel in higher education and beyond.”

Another batch of 150 students is taking up the course this month, bringing the total to 300 this year.
