KUCHING: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) had given 1,500 N95-type masks to Sarawak General Hospital yesterday morning.

Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii stated that since the surge in positive cases of Covid-19, his party and its office has been trying to source for essential supplies and materials especially for the frontliners and healthcare professionals.

“Through different sources including public donations, we managed to source for 1,500 of N95 masks and our staff gave them to Sarawak General Hospital this morning (yesterday).

“We are still working hard to source for other essential materials especially to help our frontliners as they battle the spread of the disease,” he wrote on his Facebook page yesterday.

Dr Yii further said that the frontliners had given so much to the people, so it is only right to give back to them.

“Together we have a collective responsibility to help one another. We thank all donors and also all the frontliners for their commitment, hard work and sacrifice,” he said.

Meanwhile, in his Facebook posting, DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the masks were donated by a good Samaritan to DAP. He said the face masks were delivered to SGH by party members Bong Kuet Vui and Agnes Chuo.

“We hope this little gesture will help a bit in the fight against Covid-19 and boost the spirit of our front-line workers.

“There are many out there and we appreciative very much what you guys are doing,” he said.
Chong added the party was still helping the hospital to source for other items such as coverall suits, head covers, isolation gowns, boot covers, N95 respirators and face shields.

“It is a bit difficult to find given this is a pandemic and the whole world is looking for these items,” he said.

Those who wish to donate may also contact the Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHAS) of SGH at 082-244057 from Monday to Friday at 8am to 5pm or secretary Dr Bong at 012-8041555.
