158 teams, individuals register for challenge

KUCHING: 156 teams and individuals have so far registered for the 14th Borneo Highland Nature Challenge this year. Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chairman, Lo Khere Chiang said the Borneo Highland Nature Challenge was becoming more popular every year. “The event is well received by the public and international participants.

Apart from that, local community leaders from about 10 villages in the surrounding areas will also take part in the event by selling local products as well as delicacies. “It is a good business opportunity and boosts the incomes of the people living nearby,” Lo told a press conference held at MPP headquarters in Padawan yesterday.

He added that various forms of assistance had come from the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to ensure that the event would continue. Meanwhile, organising chairman of the challenge, Councillor Bronnie Marshall said they were expect ing more par t icipant s before the registration closed on October 21, 2017.

He added that for the first time, some of the teams would be staying at the local homestay at Annah Rais. This year’s challenge is divided into four categories, namely, 33km MPP Chairman Challenge (Road and Trail), 12km Sports TOTO Challenge (Men/Women Open Category), 80km Cycling (King of Mountain Challenge) and 10km Batu Panggah trekking. Al so present at the pres s conference yesterday was MPP Deputy Chairman, Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim.
