KUCHING: The 15th Sri Santubong Petanque Trios Open, and the 2023 Landas Persatuan Sukan Petanque Bahagian Kuching (PSPBK) Cup, will take place at the Sarawak Petanque Centre, Kampung Santubong near here on Nov 4 and 5.
The event will see 130 teams from various clubs and states across Malaysia and two neighbouring countries, Indonesia and Thailand.
The states include Sabah, Pahang, Terengganu, Selangor, Melaka, Kelantan, Johor, Perlis, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur and Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan.
In addition to prominent clubs from Kuching Division, clubs from Kota Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu, Mukah, Sarikei, Saratok and Bintangor are also in the fray.
“Teams from SMK Santubong, Kuching North City Hall, Prisons, Landas PSPBK and Haji Kelali Petanque Club are competing as well,” according to Landas Samarahan chairman Mohammad Zunica Mohamad Sapiee.
The championship is organised by PSPBK in collaboration with the Social Club of the Sarawak Land and Survey Department (Landas) and Lea Sports Centre.
“The first-place team will receive RM8,000 along with a trophy, while the runner-up will receive RM4,000 and a trophy.
“The third-place team will be awarded RM2,000 and a trophy, and the fourth-place team will receive RM1,000 along with medals.
“Teams ranked fifth to eighth will receive RM500 and medals, while teams placed ninth to sixteenth will be awarded RM200 and medals,” Mohammad Zunica added.
Meanwhile, a sponsorship was handed over by Lea Sports Centre, represented by Lea Holdings (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Raymond Sim Hee Pang.
