16 compounded for not wearing face masks

KUCHING: Sarawak police have issued 16 compounds to individuals on Sunday for not wearing face masks in public places.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said, the police will continue to enforce the standard operating procedures (SOPs) including the use of face masks in public places.

“Mukah recorded the most compounds issued with five, followed by Bintulu with four compounds.

“Three compounds were issued in Miri, two in Padawan and one each in Sarikei and Samarahan,” the statement read.

On the inter-zone travel restriction in Simunjan and Sri Aman, the police recorded a total of 1,834 vehicles that have passed between zones (1 and 2) from Aug 1 to 2.

Of the total, 1,788 of them have obtained travel permission and 46 have been ordered to turn back due to not having a travel permission letter.

To date, 1,773 premises have been monitored throughout the state. They are restaurants (382), supermarkets (279), banks (144), places of worship (94), public markets (90), government offices (76), leisure places (47), hawker stalls (37), factories (16), construction sites (15), and others (593).

The committee also informed that 613 vehicles have been inspected in six ‘Ops Benteng’ roadblocks in five districts — Lundu (two), one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu.
