16 new cases in state

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 16 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (Oct 30), bringing the number of positive cases to 872.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said in a press statement that seven new cases were detected in Kuching and Miri respectively and one each in Limbang and Lundu.

The seven new cases in Kuching came from two active clusters — the Greenhill Cluster (five cases) and the Baki Cluster (one case) — while one was detected after showing symptoms of fever and coughing.

Three cases, aged 21 to 40, involved workers at a premises visited by a Covid-19 positive case while the other two cases had close contact with the Greenhill Cluster. All five were tested positive for Covid-19 on Oct 29.

One case, which tested positive on Oct 29, had close contact with the Baki Cluster. 

Another new case involved a local businessman who went for a Covid-19 screening test at a private health facility in Kuching on Oct 28 after showing symptoms of fever and coughing. The businessman tested positive on Oct 29.

In Miri, two new cases were recorded after close contact with case number 834 from the Greenhill Cluster. They were in Kuching from Oct 23 to Oct 25. Both   tested positive on Oct 29.

Two new cases detected in Miri involved health workers working in a government health facility. They were among health workers who were screened.

Two more new cases involved locals aged 47 and 77; they were detected through a symptomatic patients screening test and had no travel history or   close contacts with other Covid-19 cases.

In Miri, one case detected involved a housewife, who had a travelling history to Labuan. She arrived at Miri Airport on Oct 10 and completed her quarantine period on Oct 23.

On Oct 27, the woman showed symptoms of the virus and was admitted to a hospital. She tested positive for Covid-19 on Oct 29.

In Limbang, a new case involved a frontline worker who had close contact with case number 755 on Oct 14 and tested negative on Oct 15.

In a second screening test, the frontline worker tested positive for Covid-19 and has been admitted to Miri Hospital for further treatment.

A new case in Lundu involved a cleaning worker at a homestay in Telok Melano. A positive case from the Baki Cluster stayed there on Oct 4 and 5.

The case, which showed no symptoms, went for a Covid-19 screening test on Oct 28 and tested positive on Oct 30.

The death toll remains at 19 or 2.18 per cent and the number of discharged cases is 748 or 85.78 percent.

There are 24 patient under investigation (PUI) cases, bringing the cumulative number to 10,087.

On Friday, 239 persons under surveillance (PUS)   registered in hotels across the state for quarantine, bringing the overall number to 2,330 people while 28,686 PUS have completed their quarantine period.
