MUKAH: A total of 160 stalls will open to boost the attraction of Mukah Ramadan Bazaar soon.

The bazaar will be located at Mukah Food Street which is now a site for small hawkers operating next to the Everwin Mukah Supermarket.

Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM) mayor Kadir Jamil said the stalls would house hawkers at the site where strict standard operating procedures (SOP) guidelines would be implemented as issued by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) recently.

“This Ramadan Bazaar will be held at Mukah Street Food, which is in the hawker area operating at the moment; on our side all things have been prepared and now we are waiting for the decision from the Mukah Hawkers and Small Traders Association (PPPKM).

“There are only a few things that need to be resolved and discussed by us with the PPPKM now,” Kadir told New Sarawak Tribune.

At the moment, a total of 120 traders have registered to get a trading lot at the bazaar, he added.

He also said in order to operate in the bazaar, very strict SOPs had to be adhered to for the safety of the public.

“Among them, only two persons are allowed to man one stall and each stall must have a barrier to ensure there is a distance between two adjacent stalls.

“Before doing business, the hawkers have to undergo tests including having typhoid injections and other relevant measures,” said Kadir.

“Therefore, all decisions on the bazaar operation are subjected to the final decision from the committee or the Mukah Division Disaster Management Committee,” he added.

Last year the Ramadan Bazaar was not allowed to operate for the first time and only online ordering and pick -up services were allowed throughout the state due to the pandemic.

It has become customary for the community to buy food online since the Covid-19 pandemic began to hit the country. In addition, food delivery services especially Food Panda are well received by the community.

Therefore, if it is in a safe zone then it is suitable for the bazaar to operate with the new norms and standard operation procedures (SOPs) adhered to by all.
