MIRI: One hundred and sixty-one students of Universiti Teknologi Mara Samarahan campus arrived in nine buses at the Miri Police Headquarters at 9.40am yesterday.

They underwent a 40-day quarantine at their campus before they were allowed to go back to their respective hometowns.

These students were screened for Covid-19 symptoms, said Miri Health Department officer Dr P Raviwharmman Packierisamy.

Out of the 161 students, 102 were females.

Two days ago, 127 students from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) departed in eight buses from their campus in Kota Samarahan. Most headed for Sibu.

Miri Police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said six of the students were sent back to their respective homes in Sungai Rait, Bakam, and Tukau by police mobile patrol vehicles; their parents were unable to come to IPD Miri because of the lack of transport.

Miri IPD has been designated as the pick-up point for tertiary students who came back from outside Miri following the Covid-19 outbreak.

Lim was happy with the smooth process which adhered to the social distancing guidelines.
