KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department arrested a total of 17 foreigners following intensified efforts to detect undocumented immigrants in the city.
A series of raids codenamed ‘Ops Sapu’ and ‘Ops Pintu’ were held by Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division at residences from on Thursday (Feb 8).
The team had inspected a total of 41 individuals for their documents in the state.
Of the figure, 17 were arrested for committing offenses under Section 15 (1)(c) and Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The operation, held from 10pm to 8.30am, focused on monitoring the presence of foreigners in rental room premises around the city.
In light of this, the public is advised to channel complaints to the department through existing channels if they have valid information regarding the presence of illegal immigrants in their respective areas.
