17 longhouses get funds for repair

KUCHING: Seventeen longhouses in the Beluru area received funds for the repair of their longhouses under the Minor Rural Project — Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Project (MRP-PPRMS) programme.

The cheques were presented to the longhouse representatives by Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil on Saturday (Sept 25).

“The MRP-PPRMS home improvement programme is one of the government’s initiatives to upgrade the homes of low-income residents.

“I hope this help can ease their burden and in turn provide comfort to them all,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Sept 26).

Among the recipients were Rumah Seman Rigie (RM47,000), Rumah Pengabang   Janang (RM34,000), Rumah Sesebuah, Kampung Benawa (RM30,000), Rumah Sesebuah, Sungai Biar (RM22,000), Rumah Suga   Ugom (RM33,000) and Rumah Ngumbang Tia (RM26,000).

At the same time, Rumah James Ugil   Mekun (RM42,000), Rumah Tuggang  Dunggat (RM16,000), Rumah Keyai  Kiaw (RM10,000), Rumah Sesebuah, Kampung Muhibbah Lapok (RM20,000), Rumah Engkamat Thong (RM8,000) and Rumah James Banggau (RM19,000) also received the allocation.

Also receiving the funds were Rumah George Ijus   Jawa (RM57,750), Rumah Lua   Jadot (RM18,000), Rumah Aji Nawek (RM25,000), Rumah Ugak Kalang (RM24,000) and Rumah Kumbau (RM18,000).

During the ceremony, Penguang also presented minor rural project (MRP) grants to several village security and development committees (JKKKs) and their Women Bureau.

Among them were JKKK Duri Atek (RM15,000), JKKK Rumah Niga (RM15,000), the Women Bureau of Rumah Duri  Atek (RM5,000), the Women Bureau of Rumah Niga (RM5,000) as well as the SK Sg Sebatu Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) (RM10,000).
