MIRI: Seventeen Miri temples’ committee bodies have met up with the Religious Groups Affairs’ Unit (Unifor) officiated by Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin here on Sunday.

According to a press statement, the meeting was to finalise the regulations pertaining to fund allocations as well as land applications for the construction or renovation of churches and temples and other problems faced by the non Islamic groups.

Also present at the meeting was Unifor director Richard Lon.

Unifor was set up on May 26, 2017 and it was the first unit set up in the Chief Minister’s Office under Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas’ portfolio.

The establishment of Unifor as a state agency was mooted by the late former Chief Minister Pehin Seri Adenan Satem who was responsible to draw up a policy to promote religious harmony besides evaluating, suggesting and outlining policies, laws and regulations that involved non Islamic religious groups in Sarawak.
