1,700 senior GPS members to attend seminar

KUCHING: Around 1,700 senior members from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will attend the first seminar on the coalition at the Penview Convention Centre tomorrow (Jan 26).

The seminar is hosted and organised by GPS Zone 1 led by Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi who is also the Rural Electricity Assistant Minister. GPS Zone 1 consists of six constituencies, namely Tanjung Datu, Pantai Damai, Demak Laut, Tupong, Samariang and Satok.

The seminar which will commence at 8am will entail two sessions of briefings by five panellists namely Samariang assemblywoman Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, Dr Suffian Mansor from University Kabangsaan Malaysia and Professor Dr Awang Azman Awang Pawi from University Malaya.

The moderators for the two sessions will be Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni and Tupong assemblyman Fazruddin Abdul Rahman.

A townhall meeting will ensue in the afternoon with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg himself conducting the meeting whilst organising chairman of the seminar Dr Abdul Rahman will act as the moderator.

Dr Abdul Rahman explained in a press conference held in Kuching yesterday that the goal of the seminar is to explain the genesis and rationale behind the formation of GPS.

It also plans on explaining details of the new struggle and to further explain the need for the fight towards the return to the original status of Sarawak as prescribed in the Malaysia Agreement 1963, the adherence to the Federal Constitution with specific reference to the Oil & Mining Ordinance 1968 (OMO68) and the Territorial Sea-Act 2012 (TSA12).

“Apart from this we aim to gather momentum and start strategising for more events such as this to be held all the way down to the grassroots level in anticipation and preparation of the 12th State Election due in 2021” said Dr Abdul Rahman.

The seminar will be attended by all three wings of the four components namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
