TELAGA AIR: Assistant Minister for Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications), Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, yesterday presented living allowances to 171 fishermen at the multi-purpose hall of Kampung Telaga Air.

83 of the fishermen received a living allowance of RM200 each while the rest received a living allowance of RM300 each.

Rahman, who had, earlier on, officiated at the 28th  Annual General Meeting of the Satang Biru Area Fishermen Association (PNK), also presented prizes to seven fishermen’s children who excelled in their studies.

In his speech, the Assistant Minister advised the fishermen to make full and wise use of the facilities provided by the government including the 1Malaysia Internet Centre so that they could improve their incomes.

He pointed out that the government had provided Kampung Telaga Air  with the internet facility.

“Fishermen here have to be smart to make use of all these facilities if they want to change the fate of their families,” he said.

He added that the fishermen in this area could market their products and     communicate with anyone using the internet facilities provided.

“Fishermen can interact with buyers and if they use this facility, they do not need the middlemen to sell their fish for them.

“Many products can be marketed online,” said Rahman.
