178 new cases, four deaths, two clusters

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 178 Covid-19 positive cases today, bringing the state’s tally to 5,272 cases.

At the same time, the state also recorded four more deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities so far to 48.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the latest cases comprised 67 from Sibu, Bintulu (24), Dalat (23), Kanowit (21), Kapit (10), Miri (six), Song and Samarahan — five each, Kuching and Matu — three each, Selangau, Sebauh and Beluru — two each, while Sarikei, Bau, Subis, Julau and Lawas recorded one case each.

“Of the 67 cases in Sibu, 28 involved the Pasai Cluster, 17 were close contacts screened from active case detection (ACD), 17 were individual screenings, four involved individuals with symptoms screened at health facilities, and one involved a medical worker at a health facility.

“In Bintulu, 12 cases involved a new cluster dubbed as Jun Heng Cluster, six from ACD, three were individuals with symptoms, two involved medical workers and one case involved the Rakut Cluster.

“In Dalat, 16 cases were individuals screened in high risk areas in the district and seven involved the Pasai Cluster,” it said in a daily Covid-19 update today.

In Kapit, five cases involved the Pasai Cluster, three involved medical workers and two from ACD.

In Miri, five cases were from ACD and one case involved a medical worker.

In Song, four cases were from ACD and one case involved the Pasai Cluster.

In Kuching, two cases involved locals returning from Melaka and Selangor and one case from ACD.

Both Sebauh and Beluru districts recorded one case linked to Pasai Cluster and one case from ACD, respectively.

All cases reported in Kanowit and Sarikei were linked to Pasai Cluster while all cases in Matu involved the Jalan Pengiran Cluster.

All cases in Samarahan, Selangau, Bau, Subis and Lawas were from ACD while Julau recorded one case involving an individual with symptoms.

The committee also detected a new cluster dubbed the Sebangkoi Cluster in Sri Aman District.

SDMC also said 178 cases had recovered and been discharged from hospitals today — 111 from Sibu Hospital, 21 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), 19 from Miri Hospital, 13 from Bintulu Hospital, 10 from Sarikei Hospital and four from PKRC under Hospital Kapit.

“This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 3,445 or 65.35 percent of total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak,” it pointed out.

The same day also reported that there were 1,761 individuals were still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the state – 916 in Sibu Hospital, Miri Hospital (385), Bintulu Hospital (174), SGH (154), PKRC under Kapit Hospital (110), Sarikei Hospital (17), Limbang Hospital (four) and PKRC Sipitang in Sabah (one).

“Today, 225 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases have been reported and 34 PUIs are still awaiting laboratory results,” it added.
