18 compete for top six of hairdressing competition

KUCHING: A total of 18 participants from various agencies and skills training institutions participated in the WorldSkills Malaysia Sarawak (WMS) 2019 Hairdressing Competition Pre-Final.

The two-day competition, held at Maison Monica Hair and Beauty Academy at Kota Samarahan, started yesterday.

The contestants are competing on the “Ladies Commercial Salon Style” module where the top six will proceed to the final on a date yet to be fixed.

The pre-final are Rosmina Umpun, Auan Sali and chief judge Khaljaksa Khalil, the Department of Skills Development (JPK) National Expert in Hairdressing.

WMS 2019, which is jointly organised by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research (MESTR) and the Department of Skills Development (JPK) Sarawak under the Ministry of Human Resources, is a platform for the youth of Sarawak to have a chance to show their talents and skills in the field of hairdressing, welding, electrical installation, brick-laying, painting and decorating, cooking, refrigeration and air-conditioning, automobile technology, fashion technology, beauty therapy, and restaurant service.

WMS promotes Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) and the competition also serves as a starting point in identifying youth of Sarawak with high skills who are able to compete at higher levels such as the national-level WorldSkills Malaysia Youth (WSMB), Asean Skills Competition (ASC) and WorldSkills Competition (WSC).
