KUCHING: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced that 18 fatalities were recorded from Oct 14 to Oct 21.

The death recorded on Oct 14 involved a 63-year-old man from Samarahan who was brought in dead (BID) to Sarawak Heart Centre. The case has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and heart disease.

The committee said the death on Oct 15 was of a 78-year-old woman from Sri Aman who was BID to Sri Aman hospital. The case had a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, and dyslipidemia.

On Oct 16, four deaths were recorded where they were all from Sibu and passed away at Sibu Hospital. The first death reported on that day was of a 72-year-old man who had high blood pressure followed by a 75-year-old woman who suffered from high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and chronic kidney disease; a 78-year-old woman who had blood pressure; and a 64-year old woman who had high blood pressure, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease.

Meanwhile, the deaths reported on Oct 18 involvef a 74-year-old man from Bintulu who passed away at Bintulu Hospital and a 77-year-old man from Limbang. The latter passed away at Limbang Hospital and had high blood pressure, and heart disease.

“Two deaths were reported on Oct 19involving two men from Sarikei. The first case was of a 60-year-old man who was BID at Dalat Hospital. He had a history of high blood pressure.

“The second death was of a 66-year-old man who passed away at Sarikei. The case had high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, and asthma,” it said.

The SDMC added that six deaths were reported on Oct 20 where the first case involves a 77-year-old woman from Sri Aman. She passed away at Sri Aman Hospital and had high blood pressure.

“The second death on a similar day was that of an 84-year-old man from Miri who passed away at the Miri Hospital. He had a history of diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

“The third death was that of a 55-year-old woman from Betong who passed away at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). She had a history of high blood pressure, and diabetes,” it said.

It added that another death recorded on Oct 20 was that of a 75-year-old man from Sarikei who passed away at the Sarikei Hospital. It said that the case needed assistance in navigating about his daily activities.

“The fifth and final deaths recorded on that day were that of a 32-year-old woman from Miri who passed away at Miri Hospital and a 32-year-old man from Kuching who was BID to SGH,” said the committee.

The SDMC said two deaths were recorded on Oct 21. The first death was that of a 31-year-old woman from Bintulu who passed away at Bintulu Hospital and the second death involves a 64-year-old woman from Samarahan.

“The latter case passed away at SGH and had high blood pressure and diabetes,” it said.
