KUCHING: Police have arrested 19 individuals statewide for defying the movement control order (MCO) between 8am on Saturday and 8am yesterday.

State Commissioner of Police Datuk Aidi Ismail stated that Miri recorded the most arrests with seven offenders.

“This was followed by Kuching with four arrests, three in Sarikei, and one each in Bintulu, Betong, Saratok, Lawas and Matu Daro,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The latest figure brings the tally of arrests made throughout Sarawak to 2,023 arrests since March 18.

The figure shows a decline compared to the previous figure of 33 arrests for the same period from Friday to Saturday.

All offenders were detained under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Regulation 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within The Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
