SIBU: There will be 19 trips daily for the express boat service from Sibu to Kapit and one trip from Kuching to Sibu daily to meet the demand for the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration.
The Sarawak Rivers Board Controller (LSS) Richard Tajan said the number of trips would be increased if the need arose.
He told reporters this at the launch of the river enforcement operations in conjunction with the Chinese New Year 2019 at the Sibu Passenger Terminal here today, by LSS chairman Dr Murni Suhaili.
He said the first phase of the operation was from today until Sunday, while the second phase from Feb 9 to 10.
The operation was also aimed at informing the public on the importance of safety while using express boats and for boat operators to comply with the rules enforced by the LSS, he added.
He also said that river transport would still be used in the next four to five years although there was already a road connecting Sibu and Kapit because there were many people who lived by the banks of Sungai Rajang and required such transport. – Bernama
