KUCHING: Some 19 families in the Satok area here can breathe a sigh of relief as the Sarawak government will be improving their houses under its Minor Rural Project (MRP) programme.

The Satok area consists of Kampung No. 3, Kampung No. 5, Kampung No. 6, Kampung Kudey Lama and Kampung Kudey Baru.

Satok PBB Exco member Mohammad Abdul Rahman Adenan said the project was given a funding of RM1 million.

He said the project would receive around RM450,000 for the first phase while the other half would be given after the completion of Phase One.

“A total of RM15,000 will be granted for each house in and it will take around six months to proceed to the second phase of the project.”

Meanwhile, project consultant Mohd Akram Karim from Ukor Bahan Sarawak Group said, the project was in its initial stage.

“The consultant team will examine thoroughly each of the dilapidated houses and the requests made by the households to come up with a figure and the materials needed,” he said.

Akram also mentioned that the project would start after the Hari Raya celebration as the fasting month is just around the corner.

“Currently, there’s no contractor available yet for the project as it’s still in the initial stages but once everything has been processed, an open tender would be held.”

He added that the renovation process would take around two months or more, depending on the state of the houses.
