191 new cases, one death, one less cluster

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 191 new positive Covid-19 cases on Saturday (Jan 30), bringing the state’s tally to 4,315 cases.

At the same time, the state also recorded one more Covid-19 related death, bringing the total number of fatalities so far to 37.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the latest cases comprised 81 from Sibu, Kanowit (38); Bintulu (16); Matu (12); Song (eight); Kapit (seven); Sarikei and Samarahan with five each; Miri and Bukit Mabong — four each; Kuching, Beluru and Dalat — two each; while Bau, Daro, Belaga, Selangau and Meradong recorded one case each.

“Of the 81 cases in Sibu District, 54 involved the Pasai Cluster, 17 were close contacts screened through active case detection (ACD), six were individual screenings, three were individuals with symptoms screened at health facilities, and one was a medical worker at health facility.

“In Kanowit, 31 cases involved the Pasai Cluster, five were individual screenings, one involving a medical worker and one individual with symptoms.

“In Bintulu, eight involved the Rakut Cluster, six from ACD, and two involving individuals with symptoms,” SDMC said in a daily Covid-19 update today.

All cases recorded in Matu and Daro districts were from ACD, while Song recorded three cases linked to Pasai Cluster, three from ACD and two from individual screenings.

Additionally, all cases in Bukit Mabong, Beluru and Belaga involved the Pasai Cluster while one case in Bau involved Tabong Cluster.

In Kapit, six cases were from ACD while one case involved individual screening.

In Sarikei, three cases were from ACD, one case involved the Pasai Cluster and one involving individual with symptoms.

In Samarahan, four cases were from ACD and one case involved the Tabong Cluster.

In Miri, two cases involved individual screenings, one case from ACD, and one case involved individual with symptoms.

In Kuching, one case involved a local Sarawakian returning from Kuala Lumpur and one case from ACD.

Dalat recorded one case linked to Pasai Cluster and one case from ACD, while Selangau recorded one case involving an individual who was screened prior to undergoing a surgery.

One case in Meradong involved an individual with symptoms.

SDMC also said 177 patients had recovered and discharged from hospitals on Saturday — 121 from Sibu Hospital, 32 from PKRC Kapit, eight from Miri Hospital, seven from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), five from Bintulu Hospital and four Sarikei Hospital.

This brings the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 2,507 or 58.10 percent of total Covid-19 cases in Sarawak.

As of Saturday, there were 1,755 persons still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the state — 1,066 in Sibu Hospital, Miri Hospital (273), SGH (162), Bintulu Hospital (121), Kapit Hospital (92), Sarikei Hospital (36), Limbang Hospital (four) and PKRC Sipitang in Sabah (one).

There were 315 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases reported with 73 awaiting laboratory test results.
