KUCHING: The Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) and the Sarawak Skills Development Centre (Sarawak Skills) have synergised their expertise and resources to facilitate the adoption of Industry Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) technologies in the state.

Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC) chairman Hallman Sabri said the formalisation of Sarawak Skills as MPC’s technology partner had extended the reach of MPC’s MyReskill IoT (Internet of Things) programme to industries throughout the state.

He said the programme aimed to assist companies in the adoption of IR 4.0 technologies.

“An important pillar of the programme is to equip the non-coding workforce with industry-relevant IoT knowledge and skill sets to remain relevant in the job market.

“In summary, this nationwide programme aims to support, coach, prepare and enable 5,000 participating companies to carry out IoT projects within their companies.

“Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in manufacturing, manufacturing-related services, agriculture, and service sectors are encouraged to participate in the fully-funded MyReskill IoT programme,” he said in a statement yesterday (Mar 23)

Hallman pointed out that the MyReskill IoT Programme at Sarawak Skills would take the following format: a three-day virtual workshop followed by one week of handholding as participants develop the Proof-of-Concept (PoC).

He also said the Sarawak Skills’ team of technical experts would guide participants in developing the PoC with each participating company receiving a complimentary IoT Starter Kit.

“During the programme, participants will learn about Raspberry Pi and Arduino hardware, as well as data gathered from the connected sensors will be displayed using Node-RED to enable visualisation and remote monitoring.

“Upon completion of the programme, each participating company will receive a certificate,” Hallman added.

For the record, the presentation of the Letter of Collaboration by MPC to Sarawak Skills was held on Monday (Mar 21) at the Sarawak Skills’ Group headquarters in Kuching.

The MPC was represented by director of Productivity and Competitiveness Development (MPC headquarters, Petaling Jaya) Dr Mohamad Norjayadi Tamam, and director of MPC Sarawak Nor Hafizah Mohd Arop.
